Whitechapel formed in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2006, and the 20th Anniversary Tour is what two decades of staying power produces: 27 North American dates in the largest venues the band has ever headlined, a set drawn from their complete discography, and a new record near the top of the Billboard hard rock chart. Guitarist Alex Wade framed the stakes before tickets went on sale: “If you want to see us play our longest set in the biggest venues we’ve ever played, get your tickets now.” The San Antonio stop is at the Aztec Theatre on Friday, December 11, at 7:00 p.m.

Playing their complete catalog means reaching from This Is Exile (2008) through Hymns in Dissonance, the band’s 2025 Metal Blade Records release, which debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Current Hard Rock Albums chart in its first week.
Hymns in Dissonance is a concept record, thematically a sequel to This Is Exile: it follows a cultist gathering followers, with Tracks 3 through 10 mapping the seven deadly sins. Guitarist Zach Householder produced the album; the band began composing it at his studio in June 2023. Whitechapel draws from death metal, black metal, and speed metal influences, and Wade’s characterization of this latest material leaves little room for ambiguity: “There is nothing nice about Hymns In Dissonance, from the riffs, to the lyrics, to the overall vibe of the album. We attempted to write our heaviest album to date.” Vocalist Phil Bozeman on the title: “Hymns are melodious and harmonious. Dissonance is the opposite of melody and harmony. Dissonance represents evil.”
The core lineup — Bozeman, guitarists Ben Savage, Householder, and Wade, and bassist Gabe Crisp — has been intact since 2007. Drummer Brandon Zackey joined in 2022. Wade on reaching the two-decade mark: “We would have never believed we would have made it 20 years after we started this band in 2006.”
