Spoon at Aztec Theatre | December 30, 2026

Two singles arrived in August 2025 as the first new Spoon recordings since Grammy-nominated Lucifer on the Sofa: “Chateau Blues,” a gritty blues-inspired track with traditional riffs, and “Guess I’m Fallin’ in Love,” a stripped-back, intentional melody characteristic of the band’s catalog. The band’s statement at release was direct: “We started work on an album this year and as we finished up the first two songs for the LP, it crossed somebody’s mind that these two really should come out now.” Both were recorded in Austin and Providence over summer 2025 and produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, whose credits include Beck, Nine Inch Nails, and St. Vincent. Spoon plays the Aztec Theatre on Wednesday, December 30.

About the Show

Britt Daniel (vocals, guitar) and Jim Eno (drums) co-founded Spoon out of the University of Texas music scene in the early 1990s, and the band’s catalog since then has accrued a particular kind of credibility. Metacritic named them Artist of the Decade in 2010; four albums from 2001 to 2007 posted the platform’s highest average review scores, ahead of Outkast, the White Stripes, and Radiohead. Rob Harvilla of The Ringer described them as “very arguably, the greatest American rock band” of the past two decades. The current lineup (Daniel, Eno, Ben Trokan, Gerardo Larrios, and Alex Fischel) is building toward a new LP, with the two 2025 singles serving as its opening chapters. Recent live performances have featured amplified rock arrangements with new keyboard and guitar contributions. No support act has been announced for this date. The December 30 show is a standalone year-end booking; Spoon’s 2026 touring run concluded in early July, and the next date on the calendar is One Big Holiday festival in Riviera Maya in January 2027.

Venue & Logistics

The Aztec Theatre opened on June 4, 1926, a former movie palace in San Antonio‘s downtown that became a live music venue and reaches its centennial this year. The venue’s 100th Anniversary Concert Series was built around Texan artists; the official announcement called it “a lineup built for San Antonio.” Spoon, formed in Austin with more than 30 years of Texas rock behind them, fits that brief without a stretch. The theatre is also expanding with a new hotel and rooftop restaurant as part of the centennial programming. Show time is 8:00 p.m.
