AJ McLean’s 2026 solo album is called My Name Is Alexander James. Not AJ, the founding Backstreet Boy who sold arenas for decades, but Alexander James, the full name. The Better Man Tour brings that distinction into rooms small enough to feel it.
About the Show
McLean’s first solo North American headlining tour runs 26-plus dates between Brooklyn (October 20) and Tucson (December 5), announced on Father’s Day 2026. The San Antonio stop on Monday, November 30 is the last of three consecutive Texas nights, following Fort Worth on November 28 and Houston on November 29.
The album took four years to complete. McLean, a GRAMMY-nominated performer and founding member of a group whose first nine albums all reached the Billboard 200 Top 10, has been direct about where the record came from: the title is rooted in what he discovered about himself during an intensive outpatient support program, where he confronted years of low self-esteem beneath the performer persona. “This album is about removing the armor,” he’s said. “AJ was the performer. Alexander James McLean is the truth.”
My Name Is Alexander James (17 tracks, released January 9, 2026) moves away from polished stadium production toward R&B textures, confessional writing, and songs that, as one reviewer put it, “don’t chase spectacle — they sit closer, quieter, and more lived-in.” The focus track “Can’t Love You Anymore” was co-written with Teddy Swims; “Flowers” features Ty Dolla $ign. McLean took the album to The Jennifer Hudson Show and Today. The Backstreet Boys catalog holds gold or platinum status in 46 countries, which gives some measure of what this solo pivot into small theaters is actually asking. No supporting act is listed for this date.

The Better Man Tour launched October 20 — two weeks after McLean wrapped a Backstreet Boys residency in Düsseldorf that ran through October 7. Show time is 8:00 p.m.
