Perry founded the group in late 2006, building the set around the four Metallica albums he considers the essential catalog: Kill ‘Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and …And Justice For All, with selections from the Black Album woven through. The band bills its approach — without hedging — as “album-quality.” Brian Wheat, bassist and co-founder of the platinum rock band Tesla, caught a Four Horsemen show at Penn’s Peak expecting a competent tribute act and left convinced. “I honestly thought I was at a Metallica show,” Wheat said. He now manages the band globally. His verdict: “They are by far the best celebration of Metallica’s music out there.”
The lineup Perry built runs on precision: Perry himself on rhythm and lead guitars and lead vocals, Luke Kunkle on lead guitar, Drew PenCook on drums, and Alec Wolf on bass and backing vocals. The operating philosophy, in Perry’s own words: “Fans deserve the highest quality reproduction of Metallica’s records and shows. That’s why we’re here.” No gimmicks, no theatrical props — the band’s currency is sheer execution.
