State Champs’ Around the World and Back was one of the records that defined a stretch of mid-2010s pop-punk â Alternative Press ranked it fourth on their “10 Essential Records of 2015,” Billboard had it opening at number three on the rock albums chart, and “Secrets” and “All You Are Is History” accumulated the kind of streams that don’t happen by accident. The band is marking the tenth anniversary with a 24-date tour, and Dallas gets the November 10 stop at The Echo Lounge & Music Hall.
About the Show
The full billing is “10 Years of Around the World and Back,” a tour State Champs is running under the banner Around the World and Back Again â November 5 through December 6, spanning 24 cities. Billboard tagged the band as “modern-day pop-punk torchbearers” off the strength of this record; the anniversary gives them a reason to put it front and center again. The four-piece (Derek DiScanio on vocals, Tyler Szalkowski on guitar, Ryan Scott Graham on bass, and Evan Ambrosio on drums) formed in Albany, New York, in 2010, built their sound in bedrooms and basements, and broke through nationally with Around the World and Back two years after their 2013 debut The Finer Things. The album made Rock Sound’s Top 10 Albums of 2015 and debuted at number 30 on the Billboard 200. The band won Best Breakthrough Band at the 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards and has since put out three more studio albums on Pure Noise Records, most recently a self-titled fifth record in 2024. DiScanio has framed this stretch as a reconnection after years of personal changes: “This is the right time to showcase it.” Cartel and Taylor Acorn are listed as support across select dates on the tour; their appearance at the Dallas stop has not been individually confirmed.
Venue & Logistics
The Echo Lounge & Music Hall is a 1,000-capacity theater in the Dallas Design District on North Stemmons Freeway. The band came up on support slots with Fall Out Boy, 5 Seconds of Summer, A Day To Remember, and Simple Plan; a 1,000-cap headlining room for a dedicated anniversary run sits differently than those tours did. Doors at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m. All ages.
