Most bands on a 20th anniversary run throw a handful of hits from the record and let the room’s collective memory fill the gaps. Senses Fail is performing Still Searching front to back every night on this tour, which says something about how seriously the New Jersey post-hardcore outfit takes the album as a complete piece — not a setlist prop, not a clip show.
About the Show
The Still Searching Tour stops at The Echo Lounge & Music Hall on Monday, November 30, with Koyo and Initiate supporting throughout the run. The album in question landed October 10, 2006, through Vagrant Records — Senses Fail’s second studio full-length, tracked over six weeks at Bearsville Studios in New York with producer Brian McTernan. Built as a concept album, a single narrative following a character through faith, heartbreak, and depression, it sold over 49,000 copies in its first week and debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200. The singles “Calling All Cars” and “Can’t Be Saved” drove the cycle, and the album expanded the audience the Ridgewood, New Jersey group’s Gold-certified debut Let It Enfold You had already started building.
Two decades out, the full-album-every-night format has become its own category in anniversary touring. The bet is always the same: the album has to hold as a front-to-back listen, not just as a collection of parts. Senses Fail has been active for nearly 25 years and keeps choosing to do this show rather than a greatest-hits run — which is its own kind of statement about what they think Still Searching still is. The band plays Aftershock Festival in Sacramento on October 2 before the headlining run proper, which opens November 19 in Los Angeles and closes December 18 in Brooklyn. The Dallas date falls near the midpoint, with Houston and San Antonio also on the Texas stretch.
