Sombr performed “1979” with Billy Corgan at Coachella this past April: twenty years old, citing Jeff Buckley, Prince, and the Rolling Stones as his primary touchstones, and delivering them to a crowd that had no ready frame for someone born in 2005 who sounded like none of those artists specifically and somehow all of them at once. The “You Are the Reason Tour” plays Toyota Center on Saturday, October 17, with The Last Dinner Party and The Hellp opening.
About the Show
The tour follows the “Late Nights & Young Romance Tour,” a roughly 70-show run that sold out and required venue upgrades across North America, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe before it was done. What drove those upgrades was a debut album, I Barely Know Her (August 22, 2025), ten self-written tracks co-produced with Grammy-winning producer Tony Berg, including the singles “back to friends” and “undressed,” which found traction on TikTok and crossed a billion combined streams. The album draws from what Grammy.com calls “alt-rock infused with ‘70s sensibilities,” Boose citing Jeff Buckley, Prince, and the Rolling Stones alongside Radiohead and Broadway soundtracks, an unlikely combination that arrives, in practice, as what gets described as “lovelorn storytelling with explosive arrangements.” That record earned sombr (born Shane Michael Boose, raised on New York’s Lower East Side, a LaGuardia dropout who built his first home studio at 14 and signed with Warner Records in 2023) a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist at the 68th Grammy Awards and a 2025 MTV VMA nomination in the same category. He released two more singles heading into the tour: “Homewrecker” in February 2026 and “Potential” on April 16. Before the fall arena dates, sombr played BottleRock Napa Valley, Lollapalooza, and Osheaga on the summer festival circuit, plus the Coachella debut where he brought Corgan on for “1979.” The run closes November 23 at Madison Square Garden.
