For most of the late 1990s, No Limit Records and Cash Money Records operated as parallel empires out of New Orleans — two labels moving product at a pace the majors couldn’t ignore and couldn’t explain. They coexisted, they competed, and they never shared a stage at this scale. On Friday, September 11, for the first time, they do: Master P and Birdman open the Cash Money & No Limit Tour at Toyota Center in Houston, launching a 17-city run that hits New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. before closing November 15 in Cleveland.

The lineup is a near-complete reconstruction of the era. Headlining alongside Master P and Birdman are Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, B.G., Silkk the Shocker, Mia X, Mac, Mercedes, Fiend, Choppa Style, Mr. Serv-On, and special guest Boosie BadAzz. The organizers describe the pairing as “a tribute to the movement that changed music forever,” uniting the two labels for what they’re calling “an unprecedented cultural experience.” Master P announced the collaboration on Instagram with his own framing: “It’s about to be EPIC! No Limit x Cash Money Tour, one more time for the streets…” The tour is organized by BMN Entertainment and supports TeamHopeFoundation.org.
No Limit’s backstory is one of the more improbable runs in American independent music. Percy Miller founded the label in 1991 out of a physical record store in Richmond, California. He pressed albums, learned distribution from the floor up, and eventually built the operation into something that could negotiate a deal with Priority Records on terms that were, at the time, virtually unheard-of for a rapper: Miller kept his masters. His 1997 album Ghetto D debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with “Make ‘Em Say Uhh!” as its signal single, and the label ran at a pace through the late ’90s that still reads as extraordinary. Miller’s own framing of his philosophy — “I’d rather own the store than work in it” — applied to music the way it applied to that Richmond storefront.
Venue & Logistics
Toyota Center is at 1510 Polk St in downtown Houston. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the 8:00 p.m. show. Mobile ticketing via the AXS App is required for entry; digital tickets cannot be printed. Houston is the opening night city; the tour doesn’t land in New Orleans until the following evening.
