John Summit took the long way in. Before “Deep End” became a crossover hit in the dance world in 2020, before the Experts Only label, the Ibiza residency, the headliner slot at Tomorrowland — he was an accounting student in Chicago, producing tracks in a home studio on the side, working a day job while building a catalog no one had heard yet. That biographical arc is baked into CTRL ESCAPE, his sophomore album, dropped April 15, Tax Day, via Experts Only/Darkroom Records. That date is either a coincidence or the sharpest piece of conceptual framing in electronic music this year.
About the Show
Summit brings the CTRL ESCAPE Arena Tour to Houston’s Toyota Center on Thursday, November 5, the first of three straight Texas nights (Austin, November 6; Fort Worth, November 7). The album behind it is a significant departure from the tech-house that built his reputation: 13 tracks pulling from drum & bass, trap, and rock alongside house, with features from Feid (“CHICA 305”), The Chainsmokers, Julia Wolf (“WITH ME”), and Nija (“MESS W/ ME”). The lead single “LIGHTS GO OUT,” released in January 2026, came first, signaling a push past the club-ready grid toward broader territory. His 2024 debut Comfort in Chaos stayed close to underground club culture; CTRL ESCAPE is the break, with tracks like “CYANIDE” and “OOO” leaning into a more atmospheric register and others pushing toward crossover territory. In Summit’s own words: “This is kind of a crazy artistic journey, and I love to be able to share my story of breaking out of the matrix that is the corporate life.”
The tour is his largest headlining run: 20-plus dates across the US and Canada, beginning October 1 and running through December 4. Earlier this year Summit closed Ultra’s main stage, performed across both Tomorrowland weekends in Belgium, and played a nearly five-hour set at Red Rocks Amphitheater. The Houston show is a different proposition — a purpose-built production described in tour materials as “a larger-than-life atmosphere and immersive experience” scaled for the arena format.
Venue & Logistics
Toyota Center sits at 1510 Polk St in downtown Houston. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.; the show starts at 7:00 p.m. All ages are welcome, though 18-plus is recommended.
