Odin Dupeyron at Aztec Theatre | August 29, 2026

Twenty years is a long run for a single play anywhere in the world. In Mexico City, Odin Dupeyron has been performing ¡A Vivir! continuously since the early 2000s, selling out the Auditorio Nacional along the way, and the question at the center of that monologue — not why life ends, but why most of us wait so long before we truly start it — has kept pulling new audiences in every season since. The ¡A VIVIR! tour brings that show to the Aztec Theatre in San Antonio on Saturday, August 29 at 8:00 PM.

About Odin Dupeyron

Dupeyron was born in Mexico City in 1970 and trained at the Centro de Educación Artística de Televisa. His early career included work on Plaza Sésamo, the Mexican co-production of Sesame Street. By nineteen he had his first television writing position. The industry would have been content to shape his work to its conventions; Dupeyron chose instead to direct himself, and that decision turned out to be the one that mattered.

¡A Vivir! — “Let’s Live” — is the work that came out of that turning point: a solo monologue he writes, performs, and directs himself, now more than two decades into its run. The central argument is stated plainly: the real problem with life isn’t that it ends — it’s that most of us start living it far too late. Dupeyron makes that case in rapid-fire Spanish, drawing on literary influences that include Jorge Luis Borges, Albert Camus, and Dostoevsky, blending philosophical inquiry with sharp comedy in a form that resists easy classification. He has been called an “anti-lecturer” — someone constitutionally opposed to telling an audience what it wants to hear, telling them instead what he knows to be true. Post-show audience discussions are a standing feature of his performances, not an afterthought; they run long and they run heated. He has received numerous awards for contributions to theater and literature.

Dupeyron’s books — including the bestselling Y colorín colorado este cuento aún no se ha acabado — extend the same philosophical inquiry onto the page. The show is recommended for ages twelve and up; children under twelve are not admitted.

About the Aztec Theatre

The Aztec Theatre holds 1,477 at 104 N St. Mary’s St in the heart of downtown San Antonio — a proper theatrical house with the gravity a solo performer requires when spending two hours asking an audience difficult questions about how they are living their lives. San Antonio’s deep cultural ties to Mexico make it a natural stop for a touring monologue that has spent a generation building its audience south of the border.
