Movements play Boeing Center at Tech Port on November 10 — near the tail end of the Happier Now USA Tour, a few nights before the run wraps in Mesa and Santa Ana. It’s a 3,100-capacity theater booking for a band that finished an Australian arena run with Pierce the Veil before this campaign, which tells you something about where the trajectory points. Balance and Composure, Midrift, and Niis support. Show starts at 7:00 PM.
About Movements
The band formed in Rancho Santa Margarita, California in 2015, founded by vocalist Patrick Miranda and guitarist Brett Chiodo, who assembled what became the current lineup: Miranda, Ira George (guitar), Spencer York (drums), and Austin Cressey (bass). They signed with Fearless Records almost immediately after their first local show. Their 2017 debut Feel Something introduced “Daylily,” which has since crossed 83 million Spotify streams — the track people cite when explaining what Movements are: post-hardcore with enough melodic pull to cross into something wider without losing the introspective edge that made it land in the first place.
No Good Left to Give (2020) debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart. RUCKUS! (2023) pushed harder and rawer. Happier Now, due September 4 on Fearless Records, is the fourth full-length, again produced by Will Yip — Grammy-winning and well-acquainted with this corner of the genre from his work with Turnstile, Title Fight, and Circa Survive. Lead single “Dissolve Me” was the first track written for the record; Miranda described it as “the perfect culmination of energy, emotion, and growth for us sonically.” Second single “Back in My Ways” reaches back toward the band’s earlier melancholic register — “a slow burn in more ways than one,” per Miranda. Between the two, the record sounds like an attempt to reconcile what the band was on Feel Something with what they became on RUCKUS! That’s a reasonable thing to want on a fourth album.
Balance and Composure, Midrift, and Niis round out the bill. Get there early.
