Hey, Nothing play The Echo Lounge on September 26, and the booking reads like a specific kind of bet. The Athens, Georgia emo-folk duo — Tyler Mabry and Harlow Phillips — spent six years accumulating the right résumé: Cage The Elephant support slots, stages at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and Hinterland. Now they’re headlining, on a 17-date North American run, with a debut album dropping five weeks before they hit Dallas. The Echo at 1,000 capacity is exactly the room you book when you’re calling your shot.
The album is Hound, out August 21 via Music Soup/Interscope Records — their first proper full-length after a run of shorter projects, including 2023’s We’re Starting To Look Like Each Other, 2024’s Maine, and 2025’s concept record 33°. Mabry and Phillips have described Hound as “the first time we wrote with a cohesive vision, with songs glued together to tell a whole story.” It’s also the record they almost didn’t make — the two came close to folding entirely before they started writing it, and the recording process is what put the friendship back together. Lead single “Arteries” — the album’s 11th and final track — carries what they call “hope, resolve, resilience.” It has the weight of a band that survived something trying to say so out loud.
No support act has been announced for Dallas. The Hound Tour presses on to Austin the morning after. Whether Hound turns out to be the kind of record that fills a 1,000-cap room on its own — or whether Dallas is the night it becomes one — is part of what makes this show worth showing up for early.
