French Police at Aztec Theatre | September 26, 2026

French Police land in San Antonio on September 26, midway through a 25-plus-date North American fall headline run for a Chicago trio that has spent 2026 doing everything right. They played Coachella twice this spring. They carry four full-length albums and nearly 400,000 monthly Spotify listeners into this room. This is not a band on a scouting mission — they’re executing.

Brian Flores started French Police in Chicago in 2018. The trio — Flores on vocals and guitar, Manny Herrera on lead guitar, Rolando Donjuan on bass — plays dark wave with a goth-leaning post-punk spine: jangly guitars, retro drum machines, driving low end, and Flores’ voice moving between English and Spanish with equal fluency. The bilingual approach isn’t aesthetic window dressing. It runs through Flores’ Mexican heritage and lands differently in a city like San Antonio than it does in Minneapolis or Toronto.

Their 2021 single “Vampiro” crossed seven million streams and pushed them out of the Chicago underground into a wider touring circuit. Bully, their fourth album, arrived in January 2024 and is what this tour is built around. Ground Control Touring’s pitch for them — “melancholic dance music for the passionate and romantic” — is accurate: this music carries grief but it moves. Live sets typically run close to an hour and forty minutes, cycling through staples like “Clock Man,” “Hidalgo,” “En La Noche,” “CDMX,” and “Vampiro.” No support act has been announced for this date.

The Aztec Theatre at 104 N. St. Mary’s St. is a legitimate room for a band at this level. The 1,477-capacity theater opened in 1926 — making 2026 its centennial year — designed by Meyer and Holler in the Meso-American Revival style, the same firm behind the Egyptian and Chinese Theatres in Los Angeles. On the National Register of Historic Places since 1992, the Aztec went dark in 1989 and came back as a live venue in 2013 under Live Nation, with a Riverwalk-facing terrace added in 2020. For a band whose aesthetic runs dark and theatrical, Aztec-inspired murals and sculpture are not incidental — the room fits. The San Antonio live music circuit has been absorbing more serious touring acts in recent years, and French Police is exactly the kind of bill that makes that case.
