Dying Fetus at Aztec Theatre | October 16, 2026

When John Gallagher calls Crowbar and Deterioration “legends in their own right” and Sanguisugabogg “the new breed of extreme metal,” he isn’t running standard tour-press copy. That’s a man describing a lineup he actually wants to play with, and the bill delivers. Dying Fetus and Sanguisugabogg co-headline the Aztec Theatre in San Antonio on Friday, October 16, with Crowbar, Left to Suffer, and Deterioration filling out one of the more deliberately assembled extreme metal evenings to pass through South Texas this fall.

About the Show

Dying Fetus formed in Upper Marlboro, Maryland in 1991 (Gallagher was 14 years old at the time), and he remains the only original member in the lineup. Outside of Dying Fetus, he’s been serving as live frontman for Suffocation since Frank Mullen stepped back from regular touring, which tells you something about the standing he carries in the extreme metal underground. Make Them Beg for Death, the 2023 Relapse Records release and the band’s ninth full-length, arrived six years after Wrong One to Fuck With. Critics called it “meaty, thrashy, and blessed with trademark hooks and accessibility”; drummer Trey Williams put it differently: “We don’t need to participate in the technical death metal arms race.” The band has two Billboard-charting albums (Reign Supreme in 2012, Wrong One to Fuck With in 2017) and a Decibel Magazine Hall of Fame induction for their 2000 record Destroy the Opposition. Make Them Beg for Death was recorded in Baltimore and mixed by Mark Lewis, who has also worked with Cannibal Corpse.

Co-headlining is Sanguisugabogg, the Columbus, Ohio outfit that Century Media signed on the strength of a single demo EP and that Gallagher called “the new breed of extreme metal.” They’re touring behind Homicidal Ecstasy (2023). Crowbar holds the third slot with their sludge/doom credibility; Left to Suffer and Deterioration complete the bill. This San Antonio stop lands near the end of a 32-city North American run that launched September 17 in Philadelphia and closes October 24 in Richmond.

Venue & Logistics

The Aztec Theatre is at 104 N St. Mary’s St. in San Antonio. At 1,477 capacity, it’s the right room for a five-band extreme metal bill — enough floor for the crowd without losing the pressure this kind of show runs on. The evening starts at 6:00 p.m.
