Cumbiatron at Aztec Theatre | August 1, 2026

Cumbiatron doesn’t announce a tour the way a band does. There’s no headliner loading gear, no setlist taped to a monitor. What lands at the Aztec Theatre on Saturday, August 1 is a DJ-driven cumbia rave — 21+, starting at 10 PM — one stop in a national run that hits Fort Worth the night before and Austin’s Emo’s a week later. Texas gets three stops. San Antonio gets the historic one.

About Cumbiatron

The billing is “a psychedelic Cumbia Dance Party like no other,” and the production leans into it: immersive visuals, club lighting, extended DJ sets built around cumbia rhythms. The format draws from sonidero culture — the tradition of DJ-emcees mixing recorded cumbia with live dedications that developed in mid-century Mexico City and spread through U.S. Latino communities in the decades since. Cumbiatron filters that through a rave framework: late-night hours, dance-floor energy, a room that needs to move. The DJ roster includes Selector, Sonido Wagner, DJ Gomez, and DJ Jalinche, with the San Antonio-specific lineup confirmed closer to the date.

The 2026 run is a proper national circuit — Anaheim, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Orlando, Denver before Texas swings into view. This isn’t a regional booking. The Aztec’s three-level layout, floor through balcony, is a reasonable fit for a dance event that needs vertical room to breathe.

About the Aztec Theatre

The Aztec Theatre opened June 4, 1926 as a silent film palace, styled in Aztec/Mesoamerican exotic-theme design — vibrantly colored columns, sculptures, murals, authentic reproductions of pre-Columbian artwork throughout the building. There’s something that feels right about booking a cumbia rave in a room like this, even if the connection wasn’t exactly engineered. The building closed in 1989, earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, and reopened as a live concert venue in 2009. Live Nation has run it since 2015. Capacity runs to roughly 1,477 across three levels. This year the venue hits its centennial — a hundred years from silent films to DJ sets. No on-site parking; multiple lots are available along E. Commerce Street nearby.
