The title of the tour is Así Es La Vida — that’s how life is — and Erick Aragón isn’t using it as a shrug. Codiciado plays 713 Music Hall on Friday, August 28, opening the second leg of a U.S. corridos run that swings through Houston before a stretch through California, Arizona, and Illinois.
About Codiciado
Born in Tijuana’s Villa del Real III neighborhood, Aragón grew up on Los Tucanes de Tijuana and Explosión Norteña and built his name in corridos before the genre went electric. He co-founded Grupo Codiciado in 2015; within two years the group had charted on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums at No. 8 and signed to Rancho Humilde, the Los Angeles label that became the address for modern música mexicana. In April 2018, a border crossing went wrong — his visa revoked over less than a gram of marijuana, twelve hours detained without a lawyer. He seriously considered walking away from music entirely.
He didn’t walk away. A new visa came through in 2023, and with it his solo debut: Golpes de la Vida, 20 tracks, 17 of them written and produced by Aragón himself. “Vamos Aclarando Muchas Cosas” became a live staple with more than 201 million YouTube views. “Gabachas” pushed him into electrocorridos — corrido instrumentation layered over electronic production — and reached the top ten on Latin Pop Airplay. The Así Es La Vida Tour is built around his sophomore solo album of the same name. He put it plainly before the first leg launched: “I want every show to feel like a night out with friends, where we sing loudly about what hurts and celebrate what we’ve lived.” Regional Mexican, corridos at the center, for a crowd that takes that seriously.
About the Venue
713 Music Hall is at 401 Franklin Street in downtown Houston, capacity 5,000, a Live Nation property that anchors the regional Mexican circuit through the city. Codiciado’s offstage work — collaborating with La Fundación UFW in support of farmworker communities — connects to a Houston audience that carries the lived context his music comes from.
