Billy Currington has twelve number-one singles. He is not trying to prove anything at House of Blues Houston on Saturday, September 19 at 7:00 PM — he is playing to a room that already knows the catalog, and showing them what King of the World sounds like on a stage.
About Billy Currington
Raised in Rincon, Georgia, Currington made his way to Nashville the way most do — incrementally, then all at once. His debut single, “Walk a Little Straighter,” arrived in 2003, co-written with Carson Chamberlain and Casey Beathard. It earned him his Grand Ole Opry debut. The run that followed produced “People Are Crazy” and “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right” — each certified 4x Platinum — along with “Good Directions,” “Hey Girl,” and “We Are Tonight.” He built the kind of catalog where the hits are the connective tissue, not just the peaks.
King of the World is his seventh studio album, produced again by Chamberlain, out last October on MCA. Currington co-wrote the record with Dean Dillon — a songwriter who has written more songs that matter than most writers manage in a lifetime — along with Scotty Emerick, Corey Crowder, Johnny Clawson, and Ben Hayslip. Ten tracks: “Run For My Whiskey,” “Old School,” “Burnin’ The Midnight Gasoline,” “Bourbon Sunset,” “Southern Star.” The record runs coastal in its imagery and late-summer in its feel, and Currington is still touring it as September closes.
This is a standalone Houston date. His co-headlining run with Kip Moore — 16 cities across the U.S. since June 5 — wrapped September 12. The Houston show falls a week later, added independently. Caroline Grace opens.
