“Te quedó grande la yegua” — you got in over your head. Alicia Villarreal has been singing that line to packed rooms since the Grupo Límite years, and she brings it back to 713 Music Hall on Sunday, October 11, as the Bendita Locura Tour makes its Houston stop. The room that saw her in September 2024 for Donde Todo Comenzó knows exactly what it is getting.
About Alicia Villarreal
Born in Monterrey, Martha Alicia Villarreal Esparza — La Jefa, La Reina — became one of the defining voices in Regional Mexican music when she joined Grupo Límite as lead vocalist in 1992. The group’s run through the ’90s and into the early 2000s produced over 7 million album sales and a Latin Grammy for Por Encima de Todo in 2001. When she stepped out as a solo artist around 2002, the audiences she had built from the Valley to Houston followed her.
The solo catalog earned a second Latin Grammy in 2004 for Cuando el Corazón Se Cruza, four Billboard Music Awards, and eight Lo Nuestro Awards. Her norteña roots are the foundation the shows are built on — songs like “Te Aprovechas,” “Insensible a Ti,” and “Con la Misma Piedra” still hit a room the same way they always have. The Bendita Locura Tour is a 25-date Live Nation production that opens in El Paso on September 4 and moves through the Texas corridor — McAllen (October 9), Laredo (October 10) — before landing in Houston.
About 713 Music Hall
713 Music Hall at 401 Franklin St in downtown Houston holds 5,000 and is the A-list stop for Regional Mexican and norteño touring acts in this city. Villarreal played this stage in September 2024 to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month — anyone in that room doesn’t need a preview. For the full Houston concert calendar, check the region page.
