ZZ Top at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | October 3, 2026

ZZ Top plays The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Saturday, October 3 — a near-hometown show for a band that formed in Houston in 1969. The billing is Eagle Fest 2026, presented by Houston’s Eagle (106.9/107.5 FM), and Cheap Trick is along as special guest on “The Big One!” tour. Two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bands, one outdoor stage.

About ZZ Top

ZZ Top spent the better part of five decades building one of rock’s most resilient catalogs. The blues-rock chassis — rooted in Texas and the Mississippi Delta — held even when Eliminator (1983) dressed it in synthesizers and MTV-ready videos. “La Grange,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Tush” — these are songs that work in arenas, at festivals, and in parking lots alike. Tres Hombres (1973) remains the foundational document: blues-rock from a Texas band that knew exactly what it was doing. The band entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

The current lineup is Billy F Gibbons on vocals and guitar, Frank Beard on drums, and Elwood Francis on bass and keyboards. Francis stepped into the role after Dusty Hill passed away in 2021, at Hill’s own request. They have not slowed down — 2026 includes 19 U.S. “Big One!” dates plus European touring, and Texas fans get a concentrated run: Austin in late August, The Woodlands on October 3, Irving the night after. Gibbons has been plain about the pull: “We’ve been spending a lot of time on the road and the more we’re out there, the more it feels like home…It’s great to connect with audiences that are now three generations deep.”

Cheap Trick

The special guest slot goes to Cheap Trick — Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2016 — and that is not a throwaway booking. The Rockford, Illinois power pop institution built their reputation on relentless live performance and a catalog that runs from “I Want You to Want Me” and “Surrender” through “Dream Police” and “The Flame.” Cheap Trick at Budokan (1978) broke the band wide in the U.S. and remains one of the more important live records in rock. They are not playing a warm-up set.
