“It Must Have Been Love” crossed a billion Spotify streams, and in doing so pushed Roxette into a very short Swedish club — them and ABBA, the only pre-2000 acts from that country in the platform’s Billions Club. Per Gessle has been treating that milestone as a mandate, not a footnote. The 40th Anniversary Tour 2026 commemorates four decades since the debut album Pearls of Passion with a 14-city North American run, following 19 European festival dates through summer. The stop at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands falls on Saturday, September 26.
About the Show
This version of Roxette carries an honest accounting of where the band is in 2026. Co-founding vocalist Marie Fredriksson died of cancer in 2019; her absence changes the shape of the live show without erasing the catalog. That catalog is formidable: over 80 million albums sold globally, four US Billboard No. 1 singles, more than any other Swedish act has managed. Per Gessle and Lena Philipsson now front the group. Philipsson isn’t an arbitrary choice: Gessle co-wrote her first major hit back in 1986, and the two share deep creative history. Original members Clarence Öfwerman and Jonas Isacsson are in the touring lineup, alongside Christoffer Lundquist and Dea Norberg. Gessle ran this configuration through a 43-date world tour in 2025; the North American leg opened September 10 at Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan. The setlist draws from the full catalog: “The Look,” “Listen to Your Heart,” “Joyride,” and “It Must Have Been Love” are all slated. Taylor Dayne and Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets support on all North American dates — a wide-ranging bill for a September evening under the stars.
