Yohay Sponder at House of Blues Houston | October 25, 2026

Yohay Sponder spent eighteen months on the road with a show called “Self Loving Jew” — sold-out dates across two continents, cancellations and protests at venues in Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris following October 7, and a stretch of IDF reserve duty that interrupted everything and reshaped his thinking about what the work was for. He came out of that run with a new conviction and a new show. He’s calling it Genesis. It plays House of Blues Houston on Sunday, October 25, at 7:00 p.m.

About the Show

“Yohay Sponder: Genesis” is the Israeli comedian’s follow-up to his sold-out world tour, and by his own framing, it represents the turn his comedy had to make. Where “Self Loving Jew” confronted Jewish identity and pride directly — a show Sponder built from his conviction, after October 7, that Jews “needed to feel proud of who they are and the world needed to hear our side” — Genesis turns that same energy toward new beginnings and rebirth, framed as a journey toward “the source of happiness.” The material draws on his philosophy that comedy can address what ails the world, one laugh at a time, though the humor he’s known for is anything but soft: “smart wit and unapologetic humor” drawn from a culture that has, in his words, “been through every atrocity imaginable” and developed “sharp, sarcastic, dark humor that does not shy away from any situation.”

Sponder grew up in a small town in Israel’s Golan Heights. His late father was a war hero and farmer on that land, and Sponder has called him his greatest influence. He tried house painting, real estate, and bodyguard work before standup took hold. He performs primarily in English and has spent more than 20 years building an audience through “Funny Monday: Israeli Comedy in English,” the series he produces and hosts. His first English-language comedy special was filmed at New York’s Comedy Cellar in September 2023. The Genesis tour has already run through Boston, two nights at the Beacon Theatre in New York, and London, where The Jewish Chronicle gave it three stars, noting Sponder’s ability to compensate for uneven moments through charm and quick thinking. The Dallas date at the Texas Theatre is October 24, the night before Houston. No support acts are listed.
