Wale brings Everything Is A Lot. The Tour to Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater on Saturday, June 6, with Smino opening. The tour is built around his eighth studio album — everything is a lot., out on Def Jam since November — an 18-track record that pulls toward R&B and intimacy rather than the radio-chasing mode of earlier albums. If you know Wale’s work, the shift makes sense; the lyricism was always there, and the new album gives it more room.
About Wale
Wale grew up in the D.C. suburbs carrying go-go’s influence — a D.C. percussion tradition that most rappers from outside the city never touched. He turned that into a serious lyrical reputation, signed with Mark Ronson, then linked with Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group, and put two albums at number one on the Billboard 200: The Gifted (2013) and The Album About Nothing (2015). “No Hands” went Diamond-certified. “Lotus Flower Bomb” earned a Grammy nomination. everything is a lot. features Leon Thomas, Ty Dolla $ign, Andra Day, and Shaboozey — a lineup that tracks with the album’s warmer, more soulful direction. Producers BNYX and Mike Hector shaped the sound: soul-sampled, mellow, built for close listening.
About Smino
Smino — Christopher Smith Jr. — grew up in St. Louis in a working musician’s household (his grandfather played bass for Muddy Waters), relocated to Chicago, and broke through in 2017 with blkswn. His style is hip-hop and soul and funk in loose combination — he calls it “ratchet romance.” He’s part of the supergroup Ghetto Sage with Saba and Noname. He’s a serious live performer; this is the kind of opening slot that earns its own audience before the headliner walks out.
