The Temper Trap at House of Blues Houston | August 16, 2026

The Temper Trap are back — the actual band, not just a nostalgia lap — and their August 16 stop at House of Blues Houston is the one to catch if you want the headlining show, not the amphitheater support slot.

Here’s what the booking tells you: The Temper Trap are currently running as support for Muse on the amphitheater circuit. Threading through that run are a handful of standalone headlining club dates on their own Sungazer Tour — this one in Houston, others in Cleveland, Vancouver, and Los Angeles. Playing House of Blues on the way through a larger amphitheater run is deliberate. It means the band isn’t just blowing through North America behind a bigger act. They’re doing their own show, on their own terms, for the people who came specifically to hear them.

The occasion is Sungazer, the Melbourne group’s fourth studio album and first in a decade, out July 10 via Mushroom Music/Virgin Music Group. The hiatus was real and thorough: frontman Dougy Mandagi went to Berlin to immerse himself in electronic music, then moved to Indonesia. Drummer Toby Dundas opened a recording studio and scored films. Bassist Jonathon Aherne released solo material. Guitarist Joseph Greer focused on teaching. Four people in four different chapters of their lives, sending demos across time zones before reconvening in Melbourne to finish it.

The record carries all of that distance and return. The band describes a shift toward electronic textures and dancefloor energy woven through their older guitar-driven sound. The title track, “Sungazer,” Mandagi wrote for his son Ziggy before he was born — “a promise to him, to be with him throughout his life.” Lead singles “Lucky Dimes,” “Giving Up Air,” and “Into The Wild” preceded the album; “Giving Up Air” appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January 2026.

You know The Temper Trap from “Sweet Disposition,” the song that ran through (500) Days of Summer and never really stopped. The band broke through in Australia — multi-platinum, multiple ARIA Awards — before building the North American fanbase that fills rooms like this one. House of Blues Houston is the right call for where they are in 2026: a proper headlining room, a chance to play the new record for people who came specifically to hear it.
