The Eagles were never a Texas band, but their catalog became Texas music in the way that mattered most — the songs that filled the end of the night in every roadhouse from Beaumont to El Paso, the ones nobody wanted to stop playing when the clock hit midnight. That catalog — Hotel California, Take It Easy, the layered vocal harmonies and the lean California country-rock the Eagles refined through the 1970s — is what Tequila Sunrise has been faithfully recreating since the band’s founding in 2002. They play House of Blues Houston on Friday, August 21, at 7:00 PM.
About Tequila Sunrise
Paul Sidoti founded Tequila Sunrise in 2002, well before he became one of the most-traveled guitarists in American pop music. He has served as lead guitarist and vocalist for Taylor Swift since December 2007, touring with her through every major run since — including The Eras Tour. The point is not celebrity adjacency. The point is that Sidoti knows what a professional touring band is supposed to sound like from the inside, and that knowledge shaped the ensemble he put together.
The current lineup draws from Nashville-based touring musicians who have worked with Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Lady A, Big & Rich, and Gretchen Wilson. Rolling Stone Magazine named Tequila Sunrise the “Best Eagles Tribute Band on Earth” in their February 2004 issue — an endorsement that still anchors their billing, because the band keeps earning it. Joe Vitale, who has drummed for the Eagles on tour and for Joe Walsh and Buffalo Springfield, called them “by far the best Eagles tribute band touring today.” Guitarist and producer Butch Walker, known for his work with Train, praised the band’s “incredibly accurate” recreation for somehow never sounding “stiff or robotic.” That combination — fidelity without woodenness — is what separates a working tribute from a weekend performance.
Tequila Sunrise has been a fixture on the national House of Blues circuit for years, routinely drawing sold-out crowds. What they bring to the stage is the arc of the 1970s Eagles catalog: the vocal harmonies that reward the listener who knows every part, the guitar interplay, the arrangements that have held up for fifty years because they were built to. The goal, as the band frames it, is transport — back to the era when those records were new and those harmonies were still a revelation.
About the Venue
House of Blues Houston is located at 1204 Caroline Street — a 1,800-capacity room and a cornerstone of the national House of Blues touring network that Tequila Sunrise has played across the country since the band’s early years. For a tribute act that built its reputation on this circuit, this is comfortable ground.
