Thirty-two weeks. That’s how long “Lose Control” spent climbing the Billboard Hot 100 before it reached No. 1 in 2024—the longest consecutive ascent to the top position in the chart’s recorded history. The number is a useful lens on Teddy Swims: not a rocket trajectory, not a TikTok moment, but a patient crawl toward an audience that kept expanding because the voice kept delivering. He brings that voice and The Ugly Tour to Moody Center in Austin on Wednesday, October 28.
Swims, born Jaten Collin Dimsdale in Conyers, Georgia, built his reputation the slow way. He played football for a decade, stepped sideways into musical theater, then spent years fronting Atlanta-area bands spanning genres from hair metal to country to progressive rock. The solo project launched in 2019 as a YouTube cover series called “Teddy Tuesday,” posting covers every week until Warner Records signed him that same year. As his manager put it, the solo work was “the first time [he] wasn’t being the rock guy in a rock band, the country guy in a country band…it’s you.”
About the Show
The Ugly Tour is a 32-city North American arena run that opened September 22 in Kansas City and closes November 18 in Los Angeles, with Swims touring in support of I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2), released January 24, 2025. The Austin date is the middle of three Texas nights: Houston on October 27, Fort Worth on October 30. The record spans soul, R&B, country, and pop—territory Swims moves through with a baritone broad enough to hold all of it. Grammy-nominated for Best New Artist in 2025 and Best Pop Vocal Album in 2026, he performs with his backing band Freak Freely, several of whom are childhood friends from Georgia with church music roots. Swims arrived at The Ugly Tour coming off a summer 2026 festival run that included Coachella, Bonnaroo, and New Orleans Jazz Fest, and debuted new single “Mr. Know It All” at Coachella with guests David Lee Roth, Joe Jonas, and Vanessa Carlton. Special guests Avery Anna and MarcLo open the Austin show. Show time is 7:00 p.m. CT; there are no age restrictions.
