Before he became El Rey, William Omar Landrón Rivera stood at a pulpit in Villa Palmeras, Puerto Rico, learning the architecture of a long room — when a crowd is with you, when it’s drifting, how to pull it back. Those instincts followed him out of the church and into a reggaeton career now in its third decade; he brings “The Last King World Tour” to Moody Center in Austin on Sunday, March 7, one of the final arena stops before the run closes in Florida the following weekend.
About the Show
Don Omar debuted in 2003 with “The Last Don,” a platinum-certified album that sold more than four million copies and announced the arrival of one of reggaeton’s first genuine stars. The catalog that followed showed a writer whose songs, in AllMusic’s framing, ran “socially conscious, deep, and worthy of reflection, set in melodic verses and hooky refrains” — range that proved genuinely international. His 2005 single “Reggaeton Latino” was among the genre’s first genuine crossover hits; “King of Kings” (2006) reached number seven on the Billboard 200, the highest position a reggaeton album had achieved at that time, and topped both the Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts. Subsequent albums include “iDon” (2009), “Meet the Orphans” (2010), “The Last Album” (2019), and “Forever King” (2023). Over that span he earned multiple Billboard Latin Music Awards, Premios Juventud honors, and a Latin GRAMMY; in 2024, the Global Icon Award at Premio Lo Nuestro recognized his role in carrying reggaeton to mainstream international audiences.
The touring numbers have matched the catalog weight. His 2024 “Back to Reggaeton Tour” grossed $40.6 million across 350,222 tickets sold, per Pollstar box office data, with a single night at the Kia Forum in Inglewood grossing $1.84 million. “The Last King World Tour” launched September 25, 2026, in Reading, Pennsylvania, and demand tracked quickly: multiple fall dates sold out across Dallas, Houston, Miami, Brooklyn, Las Vegas, San Jose, and Inglewood before the 2027 extension was announced. That leg, presented by Cárdenas Marketing Network, visits 17 North American cities. Austin falls near the finish, with the tour wrapping in Orlando on March 14. No opening act is listed.
