Stryper plays House of Blues Houston on Saturday, July 18 — the middle date of a three-night Texas run through Arlington, Houston, and San Antonio. Three consecutive nights across the Triangle is a band running an efficient circuit, not coasting on legacy. A 1,800-capacity room in the middle of that stretch tells you where Stryper sits in 2026: past the arena window, firmly planted in the tier where the crowds know every word and the stage is close enough that it matters.
About Stryper
Michael Sweet and Robert Sweet — brothers, the core of this band from the beginning — built Stryper out of the Southern California club scene in the early ’80s, originally under the name Roxx Regime before sharpening their identity into what they called “heavenly metal.” The 1986 album To Hell with the Devil crossed them into the mainstream: it went platinum, eventually sold more than 2 million copies, and became the first Christian metal album to earn platinum certification. At their MTV peak, the band was knocking Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, and Poison off the top of Dial MTV. Career album sales now exceed 10 million worldwide.
The 40th anniversary touring cycle kicked off in fall 2024 and has carried into a full 2026 schedule. The latest studio album is The Greatest Gift of All, and a Kickstarter-backed documentary directed by Chris Atkins is currently in production. One piece of context worth knowing: frontman Michael Sweet disclosed a papillary thyroid cancer diagnosis earlier this cycle, along with vocal challenges including fold thickening and tremor. He’s been straightforward about the obstacles and straightforward about pushing through them. These shows are happening by choice, not inertia.
Opening the Houston date is Hedras Ramos, a Guatemalan-born guitar prodigy whose catalog runs from furious shred technique into future-jazz territory — a genuinely unexpected pairing for a Stryper bill, and worth getting there early for.
