Fourteen years is long enough for a gold record to become something mythic, or to let it gather dust. When Cove Reber stepped away from Saosin, the Orange County post-hardcore band carried on for a while before going quiet themselves, leaving their 2006 self-titled debut to do its own traveling. On Thursday, October 29, all of it lands at House of Blues Houston: Saosin playing that record front to back, in full, with Reber back at the microphone for the first time in 14 years.
About the Show
The self-titled album hit No. 22 on the Billboard 200, went RIAA Gold, and produced three singles: “Voices,” “Bury Your Head,” and “You’re Not Alone” — with the latter earning its own independent gold certification. Saosin formed in Newport Beach in 2003, with original vocalist Anthony Green departing by February 2004 and Reber joining that summer; the self-titled debut, recorded with producer Howard Benson, came out in September 2006 on Capitol Records. It is, in every sense, Reber’s record. Two decades later, guitarist Beau Burchell describes coming back to it as clarifying: “Getting to revisit it 20 years later, with that appreciation and perspective, gives us a new invigorated energy.” Reber put his return in plainer terms: “Our self-titled album defined a major chapter of my life, as well as the lives of so many others. I grew up through these songs, the shows, and the touring we did together.” The band will perform the record in full, plus additional material. They’ve also signed to Sumerian Records and released “Starting Over Again” — their first new music in over a decade and Reber’s first recorded work with the band in 14 years, a sign that this isn’t a tour built only on looking back. The 28-date run opened October 23 in Anaheim and runs through November 28, cutting through the South and Southeast. Houston gets October 29, in a stretch through Texas and the Gulf Coast that also hits San Antonio (October 27), Dallas (October 28), and New Orleans (October 30). Support on all dates: Silent Planet, Like Moths to Flames, and Save Us.
