Twenty years ago, Nekrogoblikon built a fictional goblin world out of a mysterious cardboard box in Santa Barbara—the kind of metal-comedy concept that should have died between a debut album and a where-are-they-now footnote. Instead it became a career: viral hits, cult status, a comedy podcast, a Reel Big Fish collaboration, and now a 25-city North American anniversary tour stopping at House of Blues Houston on Wednesday, October 21.
About the Show
The “20 Years of Nekrogoblikon” tour carries support from Aborted, Signs of the Swarm, and Party Cannon. The Houston date is the fifth stop on the run, which began October 16 in Phoenix and closes November 15 in Los Angeles. It follows back-to-back Texas dates in San Antonio on October 19 and Dallas on October 20.
Nekrogoblikon formed in 2006 in Santa Barbara around a goblin mythology and the character John Goblikon (initially a mascot in music videos who eventually became the band’s frontman). Their viral hit “No One Survives” built the cult following that has sustained them across their catalog, and press has taken to calling them “goblin metal’s least likely legends.” The current tour supports The Boiling Sea EP (April 17, 2026): six new studio tracks plus five live recordings of classics, produced by Jason Suecof, whose credits include Job for a Cowboy and The Black Dahlia Murder. The EP introduces a reorganized vocal setup—John Goblikon handling melodic duties alongside Dickie Allen of Infant Annihilator on the extreme end—following original vocalist Nicky Calonne’s 2023 departure. Guitarist Alex Alereza described writing for the release as entering “new territories” given the incoming vocal duo and constant touring at the time. The standout collaboration, “Secret Elephant,” features Reel Big Fish, which is either the most Nekrogoblikon thing imaginable or evidence that Goblikon (who also hosts the comedy podcast Right Now and recently appeared in an Electric Callboy music video) simply refuses to be pinned down. Goblikon on the anniversary: “What’s next? 21!? Drinks on me! See you filthy humans on the road.”
