Mumford & Sons at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | October 1, 2026

Mumford & Sons are toward the end of a tour that’s included Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, and Madison Square Garden — and their October 1 stop at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands is Texas on the back stretch. It’s been roughly six years since they’ve played this market, and that gap says something. This is a band that dropped their sixth studio album in February with a serious set of collaborators — Chris Stapleton, Hozier, Brandi Carlile, Gracie Abrams, Finneas — co-produced with Aaron Dessner of The National at Long Pond studio in Upstate New York. That’s a lot of capital to deploy for a folk-rock act that had seemed, a few years ago, like it might’ve already peaked.

About Mumford & Sons

Prizefighter is the pivot point of how you read this show. Dessner produced it in ten days, and the result — 14 tracks — balances what Rolling Stone called “big-hug anthems and gentler folk moments,” with Marcus Mumford leaning into lyrical territory that covers parenting, spirituality, and personal reckoning. It’s an earned-vulnerability record, and the tour setlists are presumably built around it. Whether the amphitheater crowd in The Woodlands wants the old banjo stompers or is ready for the Dessner-era introspection is the interesting question. Probably both.

Opening is Marcus King Band — a legitimate draw in its own right. King is a fourth-generation musician from Greenville, South Carolina, whose 2020 album El Dorado, produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. His 2025 record Darling Blue put him back in band recording mode, blending country-folk, psychedelic rock, and R&B. He’s not filler — he’s someone who could headline mid-cap rooms on his own, and the pairing with Mumford makes sense given where both artists sit on the folk-rock-Americana spectrum.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

The Pavilion holds 16,500 — covered reserved seating under the venue’s signature white fabric canopy, plus a large lawn that accommodates up to 10,000 on its own. The venue sits about 30 miles north of downtown Houston in The Woodlands and is consistently ranked among the top outdoor amphitheaters in the country by Pollstar. Opened in April 1990 and operated since as a nonprofit cultural venue, it runs everything from national touring acts to Houston Symphony performances. The covered seating and the lawn are two different experiences: pick the one that fits how you want to hear this show.
