There is a strain of American comedy that has nothing to do with the coasts, nothing to do with the prestige streaming specials, and everything to do with the room — the live room, the crowd that showed up on a Sunday night knowing exactly what it wanted to hear. The GenX Comedy Takeover Tour is that comedy, built by and for a generation that grew up dialing into AOL on a borrowed phone line and still hasn’t entirely forgiven the world for what came after. The tour arrives at House of Blues Houston on Sunday, November 22, 2026. Doors at 7:00 PM, show at 8:00 PM. All ages.
About The GenX Comedy Takeover Tour
The four co-founders — The Real Slim Sherri, Jon Wellington (known to his nearly five million followers as The Dadbod Veteran, or DBV), Nick Harrison (The Professor), and Kelly Manno — launched the tour in September 2024. What started as a live extension of their respective social media audiences has grown into a North American touring production that plays theaters and major clubs from California to Canada, with dates running through 2027.
The Dadbod Veteran bills himself as “The Voice of GenX and The Times Before,” and the framing holds up in the room. His material compares modern life to the pre-digital era with the kind of sarcasm that doesn’t require a punchline because the situation already has one. The Real Slim Sherri brings nearly seven million followers worth of goodwill with her — a reputation built on irreverence and real talk that plays differently live than it does on a phone screen. Nick Harrison, a former educator with television appearances on NBC and WWE programming, arrives at comedy from the same place a good teacher does: he’s working out how to make you understand something while making you laugh. Kelly Manno — described in the tour’s own materials as “everyone’s best friend in their head” — brings unapologetic authenticity and the kind of high energy that keeps a room from settling into its comfort zone too early.
Hosting the evening is Justin Rupple, a national headliner and award-winning impressionist who claims more than 300 celebrity and character voices in his repertoire. He describes himself as a Millennial hosting the Gen X crowd, which is either a brave choice or the setup to a very long bit — possibly both. Musical director Juvany Malagar (JoJo) curates live music and Gen X-themed soundscapes throughout the show, anchoring the comedy in the actual soundtrack of the generation rather than just the mythology of it.
The Houston date falls near the tail end of the current domestic run, arriving two nights after the tour plays The Factory in Chesterfield, Missouri on November 20.
