Flatland Cavalry at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | July 18, 2026

Cleto Cordero has been carrying a record around in his chest for a while. Work of Heart, out March 27 on Lost Highway, is twelve songs he describes as West Texas vignettes — life, love, and loss gathered on the road and sewn together in an Austin studio. Flatland Cavalry brings that record to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands on Saturday, July 18, with Randy Rogers Band and Zack Telander along for the night.

About Flatland Cavalry

The Lubbock band has been one of the more interesting stories in Texas Country over the past decade. The six-piece — Cordero on vocals and acoustic guitar, Reid Dillon on electric, Wesley Hall on fiddle, Jonathan Saenz on bass, Jason Albers on drums, and Adam Gallegos moving between piano, organ, mandolin, and banjo — plays with more range than their Texas radio profile suggests. The fiddle work has always anchored them; on Work of Heart it sits back up front, the way it did on their earlier records.

Saving Country Music gave the album an 8.2, calling it something “made by hand, sewn together with love.” The standout moment on that record isn’t the radio single. It’s “Life, Love, and Happiness” — the one with the line about dreaming with your heart — and “Unglued,” which the review called Cordero at his infectious best. “Never Comin’ Back” is the one that moved up the country radio charts. “Real Slow” is the one you’ll want the room to go quiet for.

Cordero wrote these songs on the road and brought them to Matchbox Studios in Austin, where producer Dwight Baker helped the band find a sound that runs a little harder in the guitars and drums without losing the two-four backbeat that makes Flatland Cavalry sound like themselves. After a decade of building an audience on the Texas circuit without a Nashville machine behind them, they’ve earned the right to play it in rooms this size.

The Venue

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion sits at 2005 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands, a 16,500-capacity outdoor amphitheater that has hosted the kind of crowd Flatland Cavalry has been building toward. They sold out Red Rocks. They sold out Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. The Pavilion is the right-sized room for where this band is in 2026. For Houston-area fans, it’s the kind of outdoor Texas summer night the band writes songs about.
