Chris Travis grew up in Orange Mound, Memphis — the same neighborhood tradition that produced Three 6 Mafia and Tommy Wright III, where Southern rap was dark, slow, narcotic, and tape-culture-first long before the internet caught up. He brings the Prefix Tour to the Bronze Peacock at House of Blues Houston on Saturday, August 1. The room is a fit. His crowd runs deep here.
Travis entered the circuit in 2011 through SpaceGhostPurrp’s Raider Klan collective, then cut loose in 2013 to run Water Boyz Entertainment on his own terms. That year he put out “Crunch Time,” a single that moved through SoundCloud the way heavy music finds the right people — slowly, by hand, then all at once. His sound settled into hazy trap and melodic cloud rap, still owing something to the Memphis production school: bass-forward, interior, built for headphones and car speakers in equal measure. Houston crowds have always had an ear for that. The car-audio tradition is shared. Both cities built sounds that were regional first and didn’t apologize for it.
He later joined up with Xavier Wulf, Eddy Baker, and Bones to form Seshollowaterboyz — four underground acts running their own labels, booking their own tours, staying clear of the majors. That structure still holds. This Houston date, stop 24 of 28, is a Waterboyz-presented booking. Independent, all the way down.
The Prefix came out in 2026 and it’s been a conversation. Long-time listeners notice the push toward singing and more experimental terrain, and some of them aren’t sure what to make of it. Live tends to answer those questions. He’s played Houston 11 times and the room has always shown up.
