Cameron Whitcomb left home at 17 to work pipeline jobs in Western Canada. He’s 22 now, and his debut album The Hard Way accounts for everything between those two facts — the addiction that started at 13, the sobriety he found at 20, the slow climb from pipeline camps to a sold-out run across Australia and New Zealand. He brings the Kingdom of Fear tour to Stubb’s on Friday, October 23.
About the Show
The Hard Way arrived last September on Atlantic Records, produced with Jack Riley, Cal Shapiro, and Nolan Sipe across 15 tracks. “Quitter” and “Medusa” both went platinum in Canada; “Options” hit gold. The record covers territory that country and folk acts often leave alone: suicidal ideation, methamphetamine recovery, the patient, unglamorous work of staying clean. Whitcomb’s own framing is direct: “I want to tell the truth.”
His sound sits between folk and rock, anchored by a gravelly voice that suits the material. The lead single for this tour cycle, “Kingdom of Fear,” is described as an emotionally charged folk-rock song, with the same raw directness that defines the album. He first surfaced with a top-20 finish on American Idol in 2022, signed to Atlantic Records in 2024, and spent the summer supporting HARDY on The Country! Country! Tour! before stepping into his own headline run. Along the way he sold out the Troubadour in Los Angeles and the Bowery Ballroom in New York, and appeared at Stagecoach 2026. At the 2025 CCMA Awards he won Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Fans’ Choice; he also holds the CMA Jeff Walker Global Country Artist Award and two JUNO Awards, including Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
The Kingdom of Fear tour is his largest U.S. headline run to date, opening September 24 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and closing Halloween night at Houston’s House of Blues. Noah Rinker opens the Austin date.
