Basement hasn’t released a studio album since 2016. The Ipswich post-hardcore band returns with WIRED on Run For Cover Records, and guitarist Alex Henery doesn’t undersell it: “What I’ve always wanted Basement to sound like.” The North American leg of their tour stops at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater on Saturday, October 17.

WIRED is their fifth studio album and first since 2016’s Promise Everything, which came out on Fueled By Ramen. This one’s back on Run For Cover, the label they started with. Released May 8, the record landed Kerrang! four out of five stars and the tag “understated brilliance,” with comparisons to Turnstile, The Menzingers, and Superheaven. V13 called it “the most dynamic, daring, and inspired Basement have ever sounded.” Both reviews identify the same thing: the band’s core signatures are intact (“growling guitars, rousing choruses, striking emotional verbiage,” as V13 put it), but operating with more creative freedom than their earlier records allowed.
That shows up most in vocalist Andrew Fisher’s writing. Basement built their reputation on melancholy; WIRED angles toward something more searching. Kerrang! frames it as Fisher addressing solutions rather than dwelling in the dark, a shift that runs through standout tracks like “Broken By Design,” “Head Alight,” “Time Waster,” and “Embrace.” V13’s take is that WIRED is “the sharpest and most decisive album Basement have released,” with “not one moment” feeling unintentional.
Basement formed in Ipswich around 2009, broke up in 2012 after their acclaimed debut I Wish I Could Stay Here, reunited in 2014, then went quiet again after Promise Everything. WIRED is their second comeback, and the one that sounds like they stopped hedging.
The record hit May 8, and the band spent spring and summer in Europe before the North American run. That stretch began May 11 in Glasgow, taking in dates across the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and several other countries. The tour launched October 7 at Brooklyn Paramount and runs through November 13 at Roadrunner in Boston. Austin lands near the midpoint, with Momma, Big Boy, and Febuary confirmed as support for the Stubb’s date.
