Afroman comes to Houston on August 9 as part of his Freedom of Speech Tour — a touring moment that circles back to the record that made him inescapable. “Because I Got High” arrived in 2001 and defined an era: novelty on the surface, but unstoppable in practice. It landed him a Grammy nomination, a major label deal, and 25 years of touring on the strength of one moment that became bigger than the joke. This is a chance to see him live, in the room.
About Afroman
Joseph Edgar Foreman started young, making recordings in the 8th grade from his home in East Palmdale, California. But it was “Because I Got High” that broke through — a novelty record with genuine radio pull, it earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002. Universal Records noticed, signing him to a six-album deal. From there, Afroman became prolific: 19 studio albums, 13 mixtapes, and 4 EPs over the course of his career. “Crazy Rap” was another early single that circulated widely. The Houston date comes as part of a Texas swing — he’s in Fort Worth on August 7 and Dallas on August 8 before rolling into Houston.
