5 Seconds of Summer at Moody Center ATX | June 21, 2026

There is something to be said for a band that survives the machine that made it. 5 Seconds of Summer were teenagers in Sydney when they started posting covers to YouTube in 2011, got swept up in the One Direction touring apparatus, and were handed a global fanbase before they were old enough to rent a car in most states. That origin story could have calcified them. It didn’t.

Fifteen years on — and six studio albums deep — the four Australians have turned themselves into something more interesting than what the pop-industrial complex had in mind for them. Everyone’s a Star!, released last November, is being described as “a post-modern boyband album that’s as sonically and thematically ambitious as it is fun” (AllMusic) — which sounds like a backhanded compliment until you actually listen to it and realize the ambition is earned. The electronic new-wave production on lead singles “Not OK,” “Boyband,” and “Telephone Busy” doesn’t abandon the band’s pop-punk identity; it updates it, the way a good renovation keeps the bones of the house while changing what you see.

The EVERYONE’S A STAR! World Tour — 89 dates stretching from Belfast in March to the Tokyo Dome in November — rolls into Austin on Sunday, June 21, with The Band CAMINO opening. Showtime is 8:00 PM. All ages.

About 5 Seconds of Summer

Luke Hemmings (vocals, rhythm guitar), Michael Clifford (lead guitar), Calum Hood (bass), and Ashton Irwin (drums) formed in Sydney in 2011 and spent the early part of the decade on arena stages supporting One Direction before headlining arenas in their own right. Six studio albums track the evolution: from the pop-punk immediacy of the 2014 debut through Youngblood (2018) and Calm (2020) into the more sonically ambitious territory of their latest. Everyone’s a Star! arrived in November 2025 to generally favorable critical reception — a 12-track record that critics at Clash called “their debut record, but grown up, bolder, and fully in command of its sound.” This is the band’s sixth headlining world tour.

About Moody Center ATX

Moody Center ATX opened in April 2022 on the University of Texas at Austin campus. Named following a $130 million grant from the Moody Foundation, the arena holds up to 15,000 for concerts. The low-bowl design was built for sight lines — the kind of architectural decision that registers in your body about thirty seconds after you take your seat. George Strait has played the room. Harry Styles sold it out six consecutive nights. The address is 2001 Robert Dedman Drive, Austin, TX 78712. More at moodycenteratx.com.
