Toby Fox wrote every note of the Undertale soundtrack himself, before the game shipped in September 2015 — a role-playing story set in an underground world inhabited by monsters, story outcomes shaped not by combat alone but by the full range of player choices. The score earned recognition alongside the game’s writing and its novel approach to choice, and it has held a devoted following in the decade since. Now a 25-piece orchestra is carrying that music across more than 70 dates on four continents. Undertale: The Determination Symphony plays Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land on Sunday, October 18.
About the Show
The Determination Symphony is the inaugural international concert tour built around Undertale’s score, produced by Lambert Jackson Productions in partnership with Materia Music and managed by SOHO Live — the team behind the Stardew Valley concert series. The format pairs the orchestra with gameplay footage projected on a screen above the stage, walking the audience through the game’s underground geography in order: the Ruins, Snowdin, Waterfall, Hotland, and New Home, with each location’s characters and emotional moments carried through live performance. Undertale, developed by Toby Fox and released in 2015, earned recognition for its “music, writing, and unique approach to choice” — a game in which outcomes turn on player decisions about combat, evasion, and alternative problem-solving. The concert reconstructs that narrative geography through orchestral performance, location by location. Fox was direct about the premise: “Undertale is a game with a lot of music. It’s good when skilled professionals play the music and people listen to it.” He also told audiences they can look forward to “being filled with determination as the performance guides them through the Underground.” The tour opened August 23 in San Jose and runs through February 28, 2027, crossing North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, with multiple dates already at last-ticket or sold-out status. Fans are invited to attend in Undertale character costumes; exclusive merchandise will be available at the show.
Venue & Logistics
Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land is part of the Houston concert circuit and sits at 18111 Lexington Blvd, southwest of the city proper. At 6,400 seats, it gives the Determination Symphony what the production requires — room for a full orchestra, a properly sized overhead screen, and sightlines that hold across the house. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the concert begins at 8:00 p.m.
