Tom Jones at Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land | October 14, 2026

Tom Jones has been singing since the Welsh valleys were still making their best argument for what a voice can do to a room — 1963, Tommy Scott and the Senators, a young man from Pontypridd with a sound South Wales had never quite produced before. Sixty-three years on, Sir Tom Jones brings the Come Gather Round North American Tour to Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land on Wednesday, October 14.

About Tom Jones

The man born Thomas Jones Woodward on June 7, 1940, in Pontypridd, South Wales, built his early reputation on dramatic instinct — the throb of “It’s Not Unusual,” the dark narrative drive of “Delilah,” the chest-voice command of “Green, Green Grass of Home.” Songs built as much on physical presence as on melody. He accumulated 36 Top 40 UK hits and 19 Top 40 US hits. He was appointed OBE in 1998 and knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006.

What deserves closer attention in 2026 is what Jones has made of the second half of his career. Praise & Blame (2010) — recorded live at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, produced by Ethan Johns — found him digging into gospel and blues with a raw directness that reset most assumptions about what a Tom Jones record could be. Spirit in the Room (2012) followed, drawing on material by Richard Thompson, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, and Paul McCartney. Long Lost Suitcase (2015) and Surrounded by Time (2021, again with Ethan Johns) continued the thread. The early catalog made him famous; the late work made him interesting again in a different, harder-to-categorize way.

At 86, Jones remains a coach on The Voice UK and, by any honest accounting, still in possession of the voice. “So pleased to say my band & I will be playing across North America this Fall bringing our show to you,” he said in the official tour announcement. “I hope to see you along the road.”

The Sugar Land stop falls mid-tour — Jones arrives from the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on October 12 and turns toward Thackerville, Oklahoma on October 16, then west to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco for the November 1 close. Twenty-five dates across two months, a serious undertaking at any age.

Venue Info

Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land opened January 14, 2017, approximately twenty miles southwest of Houston, off Highway 59. The 200,000-square-foot, climate-controlled facility is city-owned and operated by ATG Entertainment, with four movable-wall configurations that scale the room from 1,900 to 6,400 capacity — the right range for a show of this scope. It opened, fittingly enough, with back-to-back Jerry Seinfeld shows.
