They Might Be Giants are playing three nights at Emo’s, and Sunday — November 8 — is the closer. For a band that hasn’t come through Austin in roughly three years, a three-night stand is a statement. It’s not a routing date or a stopover; it’s a residency, and the format they’ve built around it backs that up: no opening act, two full sets, an expanded eight-piece band with a three-piece horn section, and a first-set structure that spotlights a different album each night. Night Three’s opening set will be distinct from what Fridays and Saturdays got — which means if you’re choosing one, you’re getting something no other night of the residency delivers.
The touring occasion is The World Is to Dig, their 24th studio album, released April 14, 2026. Eighteen new songs, produced with Patrick Dillett, with pre-release singles including “Wu-Tang,” “Sleep’s Older Sister,” and “Overnight Sensation (Hit Record).” The album title is lifted from A Hole Is to Dig, a 1952 children’s book by Ruth Krauss — which is on-brand in a way that doesn’t need explaining if you know them. They also dropped the Eyeball EP earlier this year, a four-track standalone project that previewed the full-length. Between those new releases and a 36-year catalog — including the platinum Flood (1990) and Grammy-winning work across multiple decades — the second set could go almost anywhere, and that’s the point.
Emo’s Austin is at 2015 E. Riverside Drive in Austin, with a capacity of 1,700. A Pre-Doors Patio experience is available at 6pm for early arrivals (separate ticket required). Doors at 7:00 PM, show starts around 8:00 PM.
