After twenty-three years, Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman are taking the stage together again as The Guess Who. It’s a reunion most of us thought we’d never see—two architects of late 1960s rock, now navigating their seventies, sharing a stage to perform the songs that redefined Canadian rock. The tour is called “Takin’ It Back,” and the name carries weight: it follows a hard-fought six-decade struggle to reclaim their identity. On Saturday, August 8, at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, the legend comes home.
The Guess Who emerged from Winnipeg, Manitoba, in an era when Canadian rock bands had to prove themselves against the amplified firepower coming out of Los Angeles, New York, and London. What Cummings and Bachman built was distinctive—a sound that sat somewhere between the blues-rock aggression of the early 1970s and a melodic sensibility that kept you coming back. Over 11 studio albums, they charted hit after hit in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Songs like “These Eyes,” “American Woman,” and “No Time” remain staples of classic rock radio for a reason: they work. They still work.
Bachman split to form Bachman-Turner Overdrive while Cummings continued as The Guess Who’s frontman. For decades, the two performed separately, each successful, each carrying the band’s legacy forward in different directions. But something shifted. In 2026, both men decided to come back, together, and reclaim what they’d built—hence the “Takin’ It Back” message.
The Lineup
Don Felder joins as special guest. Felder, the former lead guitarist of the Eagles and co-writer of “Hotel California,” brings his own legend to the bill. He and Bachman share a connection through Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s legacy in the same era of rock that produced the Eagles’ West Coast sound. The interplay between these three artists—Cummings’ voice, Bachman’s guitar, Felder’s rock-and-roll gravitas—should be something to witness.
