Joe Santagato recorded the first episodes of The Basement Yard in his mother’s basement in Queens around 2011, pointing a camera at himself and posting to YouTube because that’s what was possible. Whatever he thought that could become, the answer turned out to be Radio City Music Hall (sold out, twice), then Madison Square Garden during the New York Comedy Festival, a date a BuzzFeed profile called his “career-defining show.” On December 13, the “From the Basement to the World Tour 2026” reaches Bayou Music Center in Houston, the final Texas stop on the fall leg.
About the Show
The Basement Yard is a comedy podcast hosted by Santagato and his co-host Frank Alvarez, two lifelong friends from Queens who have built an audience of millions across platforms since the show launched in 2015. Alvarez joined as permanent co-host in 2020, and the live format has grown steadily since their first show — roughly 1,500 people in Montclair, New Jersey — into headlining slots at Radio City and eventually Madison Square Garden. What they do in those rooms is largely what they do on air: sharp comedy, outrageous hypotheticals, and brutally honest conversations that don’t follow a script. Food debates, strange what-if scenarios, and embarrassing personal stories are all on the table, along with audience engagement activities the show describes as central to the experience. The 2026 touring show is billed as “bigger, bolder, and more interactive than ever,” with attendees potentially invited onstage. The hosts have been direct about it: “It’s unscripted, unpredictable, and if you’re shy you might want to sit in the back.” Sets run 90 minutes to two hours. A dollar from every ticket sold benefits The Happy Cry Fund, an organization focused on community strengthening and crisis support assistance.
Venue & Logistics
Bayou Music Center sits at 520 Texas Ave in Houston. The show has played the room before: a prior Basement Yard date ran there in September 2024. The December 13 stop also closes out the Texas leg of the tour: Santagato and Alvarez play the Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie on December 11 before finishing in Houston two nights later.
