Rodney Carrington at Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land | October 3, 2026

There is something particular about watching a Longview boy play to six thousand people in a Sugar Land theater, and Rodney Carrington has been earning that particular satisfaction for a long time. He came up through Kilgore College — studying theater, of all the honest preparations for what followed — and then out through the radio, through The Bob and Tom Show and a dozen others like it, until the clubs gave way to theaters and the theaters grew from the regional to the national. On Saturday, October 3, he brings his 2026 run to the Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land, showtime at 7:00 PM.

About Rodney Carrington

The form Carrington perfected was not exactly new — the Texas country-comedy tradition runs back further than anybody wants to argue about — but what he did with it was specific to him: the stand-up that tilted into the original song, the neotraditional country arrangement underneath the punchline, the way the joke and the music held each other up instead of trading off. His first major-label album, Hangin’ With Rodney, came out in 1998 on Mercury Records Nashville, and it earned an RIAA gold certification in a format that rarely hands those out for comedy. Morning Wood went gold too. Greatest Hits reached platinum.

The chart peak came in 2007 with King of the Mountains, which reached No. 68 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the US Comedy Albums chart — the kind of crossover number that suggests he was bringing both camps along with him. Here Comes the Truth in 2017 landed at No. 3 on the comedy charts and spawned a Netflix special. Get Em Out in 2019 hit No. 1 on iTunes. He has eleven comedy albums in total, eight for major labels, three on his own Laughter’s Good Records.

Beyond the recording catalog: two seasons on ABC in the sitcom Rodney; a film co-written with and co-starring Toby Keith, Beer for My Horses, which won the Tex Ritter Award from the ACM; a CMT Music Video Award for Supporting Character of the Year; hosting duties on FOX’s American Country New Year’s Eve Live; and a memoir, Rodney Carrington, Coming Clean, published by Hachette Books. The current tour runs behind a new single, “Let Me In,” and Pollstar has tracked him as one of the top ten highest-grossing touring comedians for the past two decades. He is playing a 6,400-seat room on this run. That is not a small theater, and it is not by accident.
