María José has been working at this since before Kabah wrapped its farewell tour in 2005 — and anyone who caught her Libertad run at Bayou Music Center in February 2025 already knows she delivers a full show with no filler. On Friday, October 23, she returns to Houston for something bigger: a co-headlining night alongside Moenia, the Mexico City synthpop architects who have been building a catalog since 1985. Two acts, one bill, and enough material between them to keep a 2,815-capacity room moving from 8 p.m. straight through.
About María José
María José Loyola Anaya broke through inside Kabah, the Mexican pop group she helped form in 1992. By the mid-’90s the group was one of the decade’s defining acts — La Calle de las Sirenas (1996) was the proof. When Kabah dissolved in 2005, she was the only member to go solo, and she has been direct about what that required: “I had to start from zero and work very hard to establish myself as a soloist.” What followed was a string of Gold and Platinum albums, chart-topping singles including “No Soy una Señora,” and the double-Platinum “El Amor Manda.” Her current release is Ahora o Nunca — Now or Never.
She frames the tour without complication: “What makes this tour so special is that it’s not just about revisiting great songs — it’s about celebrating everything we’ve lived through with our fans.”
About Moenia
Moenia formed in Mexico City in 1985 on a synthpop and electropop foundation — closer to Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys than anything running through the regional Norteño or cumbia circuit. Their 1999 album Adición+ went Platinum in Mexico and Gold in the United States; “Manto Estelar” and “Ni Tú Ni Nadie” have held in the set for two decades. On touring alongside María José, the band is clear: “This is going to be a fun and energetic tour because we’ll be sharing the stage with La Josa.” That nickname — La Josa — says something about how the audience that has followed both acts since the ’90s still talks about her.
The Venue
Bayou Music Center, at 520 Texas Ave in downtown Houston, is a 2,815-capacity theater and one of the reliable stops on the Latin touring circuit through Texas. María José worked this room during the Libertad tour last February — she and the room have already been introduced.
