Kacey Musgraves first signed with Lost Highway Records in 2011, when she was still a kid from Golden, Texas — population around 200. Fourteen years on, she returned to the label’s relaunch as its first signee, and the record she made there, Middle of Nowhere, is being called her most traditionally country-sounding work to date. She plays American Airlines Center on Sunday, October 11.

Middle of Nowhere, released May 1, 2026, is where Musgraves arrives after two more experimental records, Star-Crossed (2021) and Deeper Well (2024), and it sounds like a deliberate return. Steel guitarist Paul Franklin anchors the album throughout, while producers Daniel Tashian, Ian Fitchuk, Shane McAnally, Luke Laird, and Josh Osborne (the team Saving Country Music credited with rekindling “the original Musgraves magic”) work across a range that pulls from classic country, bluegrass, Zydeco, and Norteño. The collaborator list runs deep: Billy Strings on “Everybody Wants to Be a Cowboy,” Miranda Lambert on “Horses and Divorces,” Willie Nelson on “Uncertain, TX,” and Gregory Alan Isakov on “Coyote.” Saving Country Music gave it 8.4 out of 10, calling it “a very strong offering, especially from the mainstream of country.” The album’s emotional anchor, “Loneliest Girl,” pairs what the review called “a chorus melody so devilishly good” with Franklin’s steel guitar throughout. Musgraves has described the album’s subject as “the in-between moments in life, and the in-between spaces on the American continent that often go forgotten.”
The arc of her career lends context: Golden Hour (2018) won Album of the Year at the 61st Grammy Awards — the fourth country album in Grammy history to take that honor — and she has collected multiple Grammy Awards since. She once described her approach as “futurism meeting traditionalism,” and this record sounds like the traditionalist side asserting itself. Before the arena run launched, she played three nights at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels in early May alongside mariachi musicians, a homecoming warm-up before the full-scale tour. The Middle of Nowhere Tour runs from August 21 through October 27, 30 dates across North American arenas. This October 11 date was added after the original October 10 Dallas booking proved strong enough to warrant a second night. William Beckmann opens on all Texas dates, having supported Musgraves through Houston and Austin before both Dallas shows.

American Airlines Center is one of the DFW area’s major indoor arenas, seating approximately 20,000. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.; the show starts at 7:30 p.m. This is an all-ages event. The venue’s camera policy prohibits professional photography equipment, detachable lenses, selfie sticks, GoPros, and iPads.
