Jutes — Jordan Lutes, the Ottawa-bred songwriter who traded a collegiate basketball career for an indie music grind — plays Emo’s Austin on Tuesday, September 8. Show time is 6:00 PM. The Austin date lands in the middle of his “Smile, You’re On Tour” North American run, the biggest headline tour he’s attempted.
The Texas routing is worth reading. Houston gets House of Blues on September 5. Dallas gets House of Blues on September 10. Austin gets Emo’s — a 1,700-capacity room that spent a decade renegotiating its identity after relocating from Red River Street. For an artist who signed to Capitol Records in 2021 and has been steadily building without a moment that definitively locked in his lane, Emo’s is a particular kind of honest placement.
Lutes built his audience the way confessional pop tends to work: incrementally, through songs like “Bad Dream” and “Overrated” finding listeners at the right — or wrong — moment. His releases since Capitol — Hot Trash (2022), Ladybug (2023), Sleepyhead (2024), Dilworth (2025) — chart a career in motion, genre-fluid where alternative pop, R&B, and hip-hop blur at the edges. His writing addresses mental health and heartbreak with a directness that explains the fanbase better than any biography could. He’s a 2026 JUNO Award nominee for Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
The North American leg runs through October with support from In Color, MOTHICA, and Wilt — a billing that fits where Jutes lives stylistically: somewhere outside the clean genre categories.
About the Venue
Emo’s Austin sits at 2015 E Riverside Dr., in East Austin across the Colorado River from downtown. The room relocated to its current East Riverside home in 2011 and has since broadened well past its punk-club origins to host alternative pop, R&B, and hip-hop bookings alongside the indie and rock acts it built its reputation on. The 1,700-capacity space runs three bars on the general admission floor with full ADA access throughout.
