Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton remade American musical theater by daring to tell a founding story through the rhythms of hip-hop and contemporary verse. The touring production arrives at the Majestic Theatre on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Directed by Thomas Kail and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, with musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, this is the production that won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2016, took home 11 Tony Awards that same year, and became the defining theatrical moment of a generation.
About the Production
When Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton debuted Off-Broadway at the Public Theater on February 17, 2015, something shifted in American theater. The musical—created after Miranda read Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of Alexander Hamilton—did something Broadway hadn’t done in a generation: it made the Founding Fathers matter again, not by dusting them off, but by letting them move to hip-hop, by letting rapid-fire rap and R&B reframe what a founding story could sound like, sung by a racially diverse ensemble that looked like America itself, not a history book.
By August 2015, it had moved to Broadway proper. By 2016, it had won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and eleven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The Library of Congress added the original cast recording to its National Recording Registry in 2025.
The touring production—directed by Thomas Kail, choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, with musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire—carries that original vision intact: 2 hours 45 minutes with one intermission, the full three-act sweep of Miranda’s composition. It arrives in San Antonio as part of the 2025-2026 Broadway in San Antonio season.
The Majestic Theatre
The Majestic Theatre, a 2,264-seat room at 224 E. Houston Street in downtown San Antonio, has anchored the city’s theatrical and cultural life. It’s the right venue for this production—one that demands scale, technical precision, and the kind of acoustic clarity that Hamilton‘s intricate lyrics require to land.
