Miranda didn’t come out of hip-hop the way a scene does. He came out of musical theater and applied hip-hop’s tools with precision. What he built in Hamilton is a score where the verses carry historical argument: the Cabinet battles are actual debates structured as rap battles, Burr’s “Wait for It” is a philosophical position on patience and survival, “My Shot” is a young man naming exactly what he wants and why he’s earned the right to want it. The show works because Miranda trusted the form. The hip-hop architecture isn’t window dressing. It’s load-bearing.
The North American Tour’s Angelica Company brings Hamilton to the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio for a two-week engagement running July 28 through August 9, 2026. The Thursday, July 30 performance begins at 7:30 PM. Tyler Fauntleroy leads as Alexander Hamilton; Jimmie “JJ” Jeter plays Aaron Burr; Marja Harmon takes Angelica Schuyler; Lily Soto plays Eliza Hamilton; Matt Bittner plays King George III. The full Angelica Company numbers 34 performers.
The Majestic is the right room for this. It’s a 1929 Spanish Mediterranean atmospheric theater — a National Historic Landmark on downtown San Antonio’s Houston Street — at 2,264 seats. That’s intimate enough for the score to breathe. Alex Lacamoire’s orchestrations, Andy Blankenbuehler’s choreography, Thomas Kail’s direction: this production is built on layers, and those layers land differently in an ornate room with real architectural bones than they would in a shed. The production carries 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy Award, an Olivier Award, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and a Kennedy Center Honors citation. Those accolades can make a show feel like something that already happened to culture. It hasn’t stopped happening. It’s at the Majestic through August 9.
The score draws on hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and traditional Broadway writing across 46 songs — including “My Shot,” “The Room Where It Happens,” “You’ll Be Back,” and “Wait for It.” Runtime is 2 hours and 45 minutes, including one intermission. Age recommendation is 10 and up. Tickets are available through ATG Tickets, the Majestic’s official ticketing partner. Ham4Ham lottery drawings are available for select performances. The production is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton.
