There is a thing Houston does with sound — it slows it down, spreads it wide, gets it smoked and half-dreaming — and Don Toliver arrived in 2018 carrying a version of that gravity into a moment when melodic trap was still learning its own weight. Eight years on, his fifth studio album, OCTANE, opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and topped global streaming charts on both Spotify and Apple Music. The Octane Tour — 30 arenas across North America, produced by Live Nation, running May through July 2026 — is the largest undertaking of Toliver’s career. San Antonio gets it on Sunday, June 14 at Frost Bank Center.
Toliver was born in Houston on June 12, 1994 — which puts him playing this city two days after his thirty-second birthday. He came up through Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack collective, signing in 2018 and debuting with the Donny Womack mixtape. From there: Heaven or Hell (2020), Life of a DON, Lovesick (2023), Hardstone Psycho (2024), and now OCTANE — five studio albums in six years, each one deepening a sound that critics have long described as psychedelic R&B: woozy synths, heavy bass, melodic rap, and Auto-Tuned vocals that live somewhere between Houston’s smoked-out tradition and something more spacious and strange.
OCTANE takes its name and its logic from Toliver’s stated appreciation for all things cars, velocity, and motors — eighteen tracks animated by that sense of propulsion, with Mount Wilson Observatory near Pasadena serving as an unlikely creative reference point. Featured collaborators include Travis Scott, YEAT, SahBabii, Teezo Touchdown, and Rema. The record arrived Grammy-nominated and carrying the momentum of an album that felt, for a stretch of late January, like the only thing anyone in hip-hop was talking about.
Supporting acts SahBabii, SoFaygo, and DJ Chase B open the night. Doors are at 6:30 PM; show time is 7:30 PM.
