Glenn Danzig has been open about his reluctance to tour extensively, preferring select dates over sustained runs. He closed 2025 on New Year’s Eve and hasn’t played since. These September shows are the first live activity of the year. Seven dates across three weeks, with Houston at Bayou Music Center falling on Saturday, September 12, the second night of the run.
About the Show
Every headlining date on the September run carries the same support lineup: Twin Temple, described in press coverage as a Satanic doo-wop group; Burning Witches, a traditional heavy metal band; and ANA, billed as an orchestral metal ensemble. Three acts that don’t sound like each other and don’t sound like the headliner. It’s a lot of ground to cover before Danzig takes the stage, and a 6:00 p.m. start means you’re looking at a full evening.
Danzig is the third iteration of Glenn Danzig’s project, following the Misfits (1977–1983) and Samhain. The Misfits fused 70s melodic punk with hardcore, drawing lyrics from horror films and historical events and building a signature aesthetic around corpse paint and devil-lock hairstyles that proved foundational for goth and punk culture. After the Misfits disbanded in 1983, Danzig launched Samhain and pushed toward darker territory before Rick Rubin caught a set at The Ritz in New York City in 1986 and signed the project to Def American. The self-titled 1988 debut — blues-driven hard rock built around John Christ on guitar and Chuck Biscuits (ex-Black Flag) on drums — arrived with skull imagery, scripture-laden lyrics, and the anti-censorship anthem “Mother.” The live version from the Thrall EP became a hard rock radio and MTV staple that pushed the band into the mainstream. Danzig III: How the Gods Kill (1992) is widely cited as the catalog’s high point. The band’s last studio album, Black Laden Crown, came out in May 2017; Glenn Danzig followed it in 2020 with a collection of Elvis Presley covers. In 2023, the band toured the debut’s 35th anniversary, performing it start to finish each night. These September dates carry no stated framework — just the shows.
